โ€œGoing back to my life before I met Project Life Subic, I used to stroll around Subic Bay to collect used bottles so I could sell them and help my parents put food on the table. Life during that time was very poor and difficult. I faced so many challenges. One of the most heartbreaking memories I had was when my father looked into my eyes, teary-eyed, and said just one word: โ€˜Sorryโ€™โ€”because we had no food, and my siblings and I were very hungry.โ€
Anthony grew up in an environment where drugs, guns, cigarettes, and alcohol were part of the norm. Hopelessness seemed to hang over their community. But God, in His mercy, had another plan.
โ€œUntil one day, Ate Leslie and Kuya Sonny, together with the Project Life Subic team, reached out to our community and started a Bible Study. At first, I only went because of the free snacks, but God had His own way of introducing Himself to me. That encounter opened my eyes and led me closer to God, and eventually, to a life of serving others.โ€
From being one of the youth attending Bible Study, Anthony grew into a faithful volunteer of PLS, then became a missionary, and is now serving as the Director of Community Ministries, leading programs that impact lives the way his was once impacted. Along with this calling, he has also grown very passionate about mental health and spreading awareness about its importance. His compassion for people goes beyond spiritual needsโ€”he desires to see communities healed emotionally and mentally as well.
Anthony gives thanks:
โ€œTo the kindhearted and generous people who sponsored my schoolingโ€”even if you chose to remain anonymousโ€”I know who you are. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your sacrifices and love became part of Godโ€™s instrument for me to reach this milestone.โ€
Today, we celebrate Anthony not only for his academic success but for the living testimony of Godโ€™s transforming power in his life. From a boy who once walked Subic Bay collecting bottles to feed his family, to a man who now walks with purpose to feed souls with Godโ€™s Wordโ€”and now championing mental health awarenessโ€”this is the grace of God at work.
Congratulations, Anthony! ๐ŸŽ‰ Your PLS family is so proud of you, and we look forward to how God will continue to use you for His glory.
