Our New Beginnings program at the Barretto center provides encouragement and training for local bar girls. Most are lonely, having have left families and traveled from distant islands work here in Olongapo and Subic. Many feel a lack of purpose and value and have been treated with disrespect because of their type of work. They know it will be more difficult to find work as they age and are worried about their lack of options. Project Life Subic helps by providing options for job training, educational opportunities, health education and spiritual growth in an atmosphere of love and respect. The women know they are valued and loved by our staff and are beginning to understand that they are also valued and loved by God!
At our Monday afternoon “New Beginnings Fellowship”, the women enjoy a time of music, prayer and hear a practical, biblical message that is life-shaping! We also offer a free beauty parlor once a week where the women can have fun and be encouraged. Some attend various livelihood trainings for sewing, soap making and jewelry making. They also have the opportunity to enroll in the high school diploma program, or receive college sponsorships.
Our Christmas Outreach provided gift bags to hundreds of women, and hearts were touched by that simple act. We hope to provide more community outreaches in the future! Some of the women are finding joy in giving back to their community by joining us as we conduct feeding programs and kid’s activities in the surrounding areas. These are new experiences for them that help give them confidence and build their self esteem. They are starting to see themselves as valuable and loved. “New Beginnings” is a reality for many of these precious women!
